I'm currently a motorcoach operator in the process of making the switch to being a tour leader/guide. I have quite a bit of experience with being on group tours, including student and adult. I'm in training with ITMI and expect to be nearly done by the time of the conference, if not graduated by then. I already have a good working knowledge of building rapport with guests and excellent customer service skills. I believe making this career change will be quite smooth, given my experience. I have been able to observe a great many tour professionals and have learned so much. I truly feel it has given me a jump-start in this industry.
Hobbies & Interests
One of the best parts about this job is how many museums I'm able to visit. I'm a certified museum nerd! I have a special interest in natural history and what I affectionately call "sticks & stones and bugs & bones."
Fun Fact
I have had an extremely varied work history on the path to finding my niche. And all of them gave me the opportunity to hone my customer service skills. I've been a massage therapist, bartender, server, court reporter, and even worked in auto sales. But traveling as a motorcoach operator opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in tourism, and I couldn't be more excited to get started! Oh! This is a neat relevant tidbit: When I was in sixth grade, I was a member of a traveling storytelling group. I learned early how to spin a good yarn and capture the imagination.
Destination Experience
I have done many eighth grade East Coast trips and am very familiar with Washington DC. I also have a good deal of experience in Gettysburg and New York City. Mackinac Island and Niagara Falls are other places I feel fairly comfortable. I'm able to adapt easily to different locations and am adept at routing, given my professional driving experience.
