I was brought up on Long Island and got the travel bug early. My guiding life started when I was living in Israel at age 18. I graduated from Tufts University in Boston with a BA in Early Childhood Development but was more interested in running the freeform radio station and spending a semester in Nigeria trying to meet Fela Kuti. Later back in NYC after college I was a horse and buggy driver/guide for a year touring around Central Park. Before walking across the country for peace in 1986, I worked in marketing for Rounder Records and started hanging out in jazz clubs, starting a lifelong habit. I escaped business life in NYC to live on a houseboat in Sausalito for 6 years where I began my life as an ITMI accredited OTR and camping tour guide across the US and the rest of the Americas. Settling back in NYC, I eventually settled down for good, started a Harlem jazz club, and have a wonderful family and home in Astoria, Queens - all the while keeping my hand in the jazz world as the founder of Big Apple Jazz Tours.
Hobbies & Interests
I have a strong interest in promoting the local jazz scene. Toward that end I have owned a Harlem jazz club, managed musicians, have produced a weekly jazz singers showcase, written articles, published photos, created videos, and maintain @BigAppleJazz on Instagram to boost under the radar jazz clubs and musicians.
Fun Fact
In 1986, for 8 1/2 months I walked across the USA from LA to DC on The Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament.
